Types of Memory in a Router

1- RAM

• DRAM ;
• used by CPU to execute IOS and hold running-config, routing tables, and ARP cache ;
• information in RAM is cleared when the router is reloaded ; 

2- ROM

• referred to as EPROM ;
• contains POST diagnostics and the bootstrap or boot-loader software ;
• allows the router to boot from ROM Monitor mode when it cannot find a valid IOS image ;

 3- Flash

• available as EPROMs, SIMMs, or PCMCIA cards ;
• default location where a router finds and boots its IOS image ;
• contents of Flash are retained when the router is reloaded ;

4- NVRAM

• stores startup-config ;
• contains the software configuration register, a configurable setting in IOS that determines which image to use when booting the router ;
• contents of NVRAM are retained when the router is reloaded ;

# disconnect connection # - Disconnects the desired the connection

"Cost" Versus "Availability"

Internetwork costs fall into two general categories :
- One-time fixed costs ( Equipments purchased, such as HW & SW )
- Recurring costs (  Monthly circuit fees from ISP, Ongoing Salaries of Engineers )

When used at its maximum, each becomes a trade-off of the other.  As a result, the Design Professional must carefully weigh the relative importance of resource availability and overall cost.  If you could make a network completely fault-tolerant, this could be done only at a cost that most businesses would consider unacceptable.  Beware of designing redundancy just for the sake of redundancy.

Two pseudowire technologies of CISCO

1- AToM  for MPLS Networks;
2- L2TPv3 for Native IP Networks;

Both support the transport of Frame Relay, ATM, HDLC and Ethernet traffic over an IP or MPLS Core.

Network Security Books

IPExpert BLS ... I received an email from FedEx has been delivered R&S BLS to my office while I was in Narbik's bootcamp. I couldn't wait till to Monday to see IPE BLS, so I went to office and took my IPE R&S BLS.


Stuffs are ready in my hand. Well! I'm going to study according to Narbik's Recommendation - "The important is you must know the stuffs". Enjoy studying tremendously!

I'm really afraid of Multicast and QoS which are also very important parts of CCIE Lab Exam. A Nightmare! Are there any ways to tackle my fear? Ohh My God!

Don’t spend hours and hours surfing the web for forums or comments about the labs, use that time to study even more. Don’t listen to all those rumors about the lab, if you want to know how to pass, just study and take the exam. One good idea is to read success stories about the exam, how people passed, how they managed the time, what material they used for study, what bootcamps they attended, etc.
