Multicast traffic uses UDP ...

  • IP Multicast traffic uses UDP as Layer 4.
  • As you know Unlike TCP, UDP adds no reliability, flow control, or error-recovery functions to IP.
  • Because of that, data-packet headers contain fewer bytes and consume less network overhead than TCP.
  • Therefore, Reliability in multicast is managed at the receiving client and by QoS in the network.
